Your invoice, ready for Peppol

Three questions self-employed people ask us most
Answered briefly, with the official sources on the FAQ page.
I'm self-employed on the side. Does this apply to me?
Main or side activity makes no difference. If you are liable for VAT and invoice Belgian businesses, you send e-invoices.
I use the small business exemption scheme, up to EUR 25,000 turnover.
You don't charge VAT, but you are liable for VAT. You must be able to receive e-invoices, and to send them to Belgian businesses.
I only sell to consumers.
Your customers don't get an e-invoice. But your suppliers do send you one: so you must be able to receive them.
Three tools
Look up, check, make
Peppol check
Is your business, or your customer's, listed as a receiver in the Peppol register? We ask the register directly.
Check a numberValidator and reader
Paste or upload a UBL invoice. We check the structure, the totals, the VAT and the Belgian check digits, and show it as a readable invoice.
Check an invoiceGenerator
Fill in a form and download a valid Peppol BIS 3.0 invoice to test with or to hand to your access point.

How it works
Fill in, check, download
You do not need an account and nothing is sent to our server.
Fill in
Your details, your customer's details and the invoice lines, each with a VAT rate of 0, 6, 12 or 21%, or one of the two special schemes.
Check
The check digits of enterprise numbers, IBAN and structured communication are verified as you type. VAT is calculated per rate on the total.
Download
You get the invoice as a UBL file in Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 and as a PDF. Our own check runs through the file before you download it.
Send
You hand the UBL file to your accounting software or access point. That sends it via Peppol; Factuurklaar does not.
In brief
What you need to know
1 Jan 2026
Since that day, the structured e-invoice has been mandatory between Belgian VAT-registered businesses. A PDF by email is no longer enough there.
€25,000
Businesses under the special VAT exemption scheme for small businesses (turnover up to EUR 25,000) must also be able to receive and send e-invoices.
€1,500
The first fine for anyone without the technical means to send and receive e-invoices. After that, EUR 3,000 and EUR 5,000.
0208
The scheme under which Belgian businesses are listed on Peppol: 0208 followed by the enterprise number. So you can find your customer with their KBO/BCE number.

Pass it on
Know someone who is losing sleep over it?
A colleague, a neighbour with a shop, someone just starting out on the side. Factuurklaar is free, without an account and without ads. Feel free to pass it on.
When invoicing becomes a regular job
Rather have it happen by itself?
Factuurklaar is a free tool by nealvdv, and it will stay that way. If invoicing becomes a regular job next to your actual trade, nealvdv builds a made-to-measure back office for your business: customers, quotes and invoices in one place, connected to your bookkeeping and to an accredited access point, so your invoices leave over Peppol by themselves.
